Preface
I really enjoyed my time working on Fishing Prairie and Shield. It was a great outlet for me to show others my passion for fishing. Having received tons of help in my angling journey, I decided that this was my way of giving back to the community. One of the unique aspects of my fishing style was that I always loved trying new things. I’ve done things such as fishing for dirty carp in a city pond or fall trolling for giant muskies. Through this blog, I hoped that it would encourage people to become trailblazers. I wanted to raise a point that any fishing can be fun in its own way.
In order for me to bring awareness to this blog though, a lot of time and effort had to be committed. In order for the blog to really take off, I would need to write lots of quality content on a regular basis. The hardest part was trying to be creative. Trying to come up with new ideas constantly was a challenge. To bring in new readers, I started interviewing people within the fishing community to share how they came up with ideas for their enterprises. While interviews are time consuming, they were fun to do and were much appreciated by the interviewees. All articles would then reviewed by my buddy Dave, who would proofread the grammar.
A New Opportunity
So now to the big announcement. I accepted an offer from Hooked Magazine to write for them. They came across my blog and liked the fact that I wrote about unique topics. The Hooked Magazine is a well established media platform that features a wide variety of fishing topics. This will benefit me as my writing will be exposed to a larger audience across central Canada. My work will be featured along contributors such as Jeff Gustafson and Darrin Bohonis. I still have quite a bit of freedom as to what I can write about.
My plan is to write for them every edition, so a few pieces of my work will be featured every year. Overall I’m really excited about this opportunity and I’m really glad that my work from the past couple months has paid off.
The Future of Fishing Prairie and Shield
I will have to say I can no longer be as dedicated to this blog as I used to. To write for two mediums will be unsustainable. I always want my work to be unique so creativity is the limiting factor.
The future is somewhat uncertain but I do plan to write here at least every once in a while. Topics that are not so suitable for the magazine format can be still be published. As I equip the boat with new technology this year, my open water season will be different for sure. With Covid restrictions not letting up, I will be trying some local waters. Definitely some interesting topics to come. No matter what happens, I still wish to pass on my passion for fishing.
As always, thank you to all the readers who have devoted their attention to my writing. All of this would not be possible if it weren’t for the local fishing community providing support.
